First hours of the Band of Brothers, 101st airborne, in Normandy

The 101st Airborne Division, famous from the Band of Brothers series (2001), had a major role to play in the Normandy Landings. Dropped between Sainte-Mère-Église and Utah Beach on June 6, 1944, that was its first combat jump. Its heroic actions included the capture of the Brécourt battery and the liberation of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont. Itinerary

  • Sainte Mère Église

    Known as one of the first villages to be liberated during the Allied landings in Normandy on the night of June 6, 1944. Even today, the village is famous for the soldier John Steele, who hangs from the church tower.

  • Thomas Meehan crash

    Commander of Easy Company “Band of Brothers”, Thomas Meehan was killed in action when his plane was shot down by German flak on the night of June 6, 1944. After being reported missing, Lt. Richard Winters took over command of the company.

  • Drop Zone
